You will find yourself as a gray alien in a tunnel with gaps. Suddenly you crash into the barrier in front of you. A line of text reads:
Attention citizen: This area is restricted. For your own safety, turn around now.
Below that a tutorial for the controls will appear. Note that you can move side to side with the arrow keys. Jump with whichever button you like, and you will find yourself jumping high in the air! Maneuver and jump around and over the gaps in the tunnel. You can also change gravity by moving into the walls.
After a bit of jumping, there will be a large area without gaps with the word "Level 2" in the middle of the screen. You have just completed the first level in Run 3!
Progress to level 2 and complete it.
In the pause screen, you can now go to the next or previous level. You can also go to the galaxy map and go to levels you have beaten before.
In Level 3, there will be gray tiles with cracks in them. When you move on them, they fall and give way. What's worse is that if you step on one, it will collapse all others touching it, creating a chain reaction.
Keep practicing and the controls will gradually become more familiar with you.
Note that if you want specific level guides, check the other posts in the blog.
New Stuff!
Go back to the main menu now. You will notice there are some new options here. You can mute the sound and music, and you can try Infinity Mode. As for the later, I don't recommend attempting it as the levels there are more difficult.
You can also go to the shop. You begin with 100 Power Cells. I don't recommend buying anything at the moment. However you may be tempted to by cheap things, like "Receive Permission to refer to the Power Cells as Batteries", but you should hold of on the shop products for now, seriously. Whatever you do, however, NEVER, EVER, buy the Skater, Lizard, Child, Bunny, Winter Costumes, or Halloween Costumes. This is because you can unlock the characters above in easy ways.
You can click on the golden crown to see a list of MOST of the achievements in the game.
To select a level you have beaten before, go to the galaxy map and select the level you want to play.
On with the Gameplay!
The first milestone Comes at level 10. After beating this level, a cutscene begins. After, you unlock the Skater! The Skater is fast and jumps far. It's jumps are low however, and doesn't have that much maneuverability, so he's best used for levels that use a lot of far jumps with not that many movements. The Skater is actually recommended to be used in the following 5-15 levels.
Keep playing until level 15. You might notice a dialogue box on the screen. You have just unlocked your first side tunnel! It is called the Winter Games! The levels can be quite difficult and the difficulty spike in between levels is slightly larger that here in the Main Tunnel, so if you feel like you need more practice, keep going with the Main Tunnel. Note that if you want to play the Winter Games, you need to pause, click on Galaxy Map, then go to the dot representing the Winter Games, Part 1. Your reward for the completion of the Winter Games is the Winter Costumes for the Runner and the Skater, so it's really your choice. I will continue with the overall gameplay, so if you wish for specific level guides, check out my other posts here.
The Next New Thing............
The next special thing is after level 28. You will unlock the Low-Power Tunnel. This is one of the hardest tunnels in the game, so seriously, you are recommended to keep with the Main Tunnel.
Some More Stuff Going On............
After level 33, you will find TWO new tunnels! The Box Storage Area is off to the left. There is a lot of boxes stored there and is relatively difficult. However, if you want a challenge, go ahead and try it out! The M-Tunnel branches off to the right. It isn't too difficult, and it's only 5 levels long, plus you get a cutscene for completing it!
The next new thing happens after level 40. A cutscene initiates, and you unlock the Lizard! You also unlock another two tunnels, which are the B-Tunnel and the U-Tunnel. The U-Tunnel is
only unlocked by watching the Planet Missing cutscene though. Click on the planet once
you have completed any 50 levels, including the 40 you have just beaten in the Main Tunnel. At this point it will start glowing yellow. Click on the Planet to start the cutscene and unlock the tunnel. Also, note that if you choose to play as the Lizard, you will automatically be taken to the B-Tunnel.
After level 50, you unlock the G-Tunnel. After level 55, you unlock the L-Tunnel.
End of the Main Tunnel!
Level 65 is the last level of the Main Tunnel. It is quite difficult and fairly hard, and it's probably impossible for beginners. However, if you've beaten the past 64 levels in the Main Tunnel, you probably have the skills needed to beat this level.
After beating this level, you can relax and enjoy the cutscene. You also earn 250 power cells as a reward for beating the final level in the Main Tunnel! Congratulations!
Side Tunnels
By now it's time to start the side tunnels you unlocked through your journey through the Main Tunnel. There should be 8 of them branching off the Main Tunnel. There is plenty more going off the ones off the Main Tunnel, so there's much, much more to explore. Here are a few you should start.
- M-Tunnel. This one only has 5 levels, and it is a great starting point. There is a cutscene, and you unlock the F-Tunnel after! Plus you get 2 more cutscenes in the F-Tunnel! This tunnel is generally easy and it shouldn't take you too long.
- Winter Games. The first one unlocked, and has 20 levels. It also unlocks the W-Tunnel after part 9. It is also one of the more rewarding tunnels, as it gives you the winter costumes for the Runner and the Skater for free!
- Low-Power Tunnel. One of the hardest and longest tunnels in the game, the Low-Power Tunnel hosts some of the game's harder levels, with tiles that flicker on and off. It begins easy, but don't be fooled. It can go downright hell if you're not careful. However, it's also very rewarding, with the Child and the Halloween Costumes for him, as well as unlocking the New Tunnel. Good luck. You'll need it.
- L-Tunnel. This tunnel has 5 levels as well. It isn't too hard, and you can do this one and M-Tunnel together. You also unlock the T-Tunnel after a bit, and this tunnel is much harder, so come back to the T-Tunnel later. The L-Tunnel, overall, isn't too difficult, so go ahead!
M-Tunnel Summary
The M-Tunnel might take you a couple tries, since the levels are harder than those in in levels 20-30. However, if you've beat the level 65, you should have all the skills needed to beat this tunnel. You can do it! Go ahead and try it out!
Work your way up from level M-1 to level M-5. After beating this tunnel, you get a cutscene and another tunnel, the F-Tunnel. There are two more cutscenes you can enjoy in the F-Tunnel as well!
Note that the F-Tunnel is even harder than the M-Tunnel, so you may want to come back to the F-Tunnel at a later point in time.
Winter Games Summary
The Winter Games is the first side tunnel you unlock. The levels are generally easy, but they can be difficult after part 15. There is 20 levels here, and there is a cutscene at the end.
The best character here is probably the Skater. I beat the Winter Games 100% Skater. Using the Skater, the only hard levels are probably part 15 and part 20. There are Ice tiles and ramps here, making this an interesting tunnel. Enjoy!
Low-Power Tunnel Summary
One of the most difficult tunnels in the game, this tunnel is 25 levels. It hosts some of the hardest levels in the game, like part 22, for example.
This tunnel is made out of tiles that may suddenly go dark, and navigating these levels can be extremely challenging. This tunnel can be a nightmare if you're not careful. You are WARNED.
This tunnel is also rewarding, with a cutscene, Child, and the Halloween Costumes for free, so enjoy!
L-Tunnel Summary
This tunnel branches off the Main Tunnel a bit later. It is quite easy, and only 5 levels. There is another cutscene as well. You will have the skills to do it, if you have made it this far, it should be pretty easy for you. Note that the tunnel that branches off of this one is very difficult, so you may want to come back to it later.
What else is there to do?
There are other tunnels as well. There are also some tunnels that require you to beat the minigames Bridge Building and Angel Missions. These are the middle point of the game, so we will discuss these another time. This is also a ripe time for earning achievements and trying Infinite Mode out to earn some more Power Cells to unlock more characters.
By now you should have completed the Main Tunnel, M-Tunnel, Winter Games, Low-Power Tunnel, and L-Tunnel, and have the Runner, Skater, Bunny, Child, Lizard, Winter Costumes, and Halloween Costumes.
These are pretty much your priorities in the early game of Run 3. Have fun!
Midgame
Once you've completed the early game, you will be in the middle game. The first thing in the midgame to do is to complete every tunnel available to you. In short, that means every tunnel available without completing the minigames. You will unlock the minigames along the way, so hold off on them for now. These tunnels are the Main Tunnel, Winter Games, Low-Power Tunnel, W-Tunnel, The New Tunnel, M-Tunnel, F-Tunnel / The River, U-Tunnel, The Box Storage Area, D-Tunnel / The Crystal Gallery, A-Tunnel, G-Tunnel, B-Tunnel, L-Tunnel, and T-Tunnel. Now that's a lot of tunnels to be done! Remember that I have level guides for all of these in my other posts.
Once that's done, you've should have unlocked both minigames, which are Bridge Building and The Angel Missions. Now it's time to complete these minigames. Check my other posts for guides on these minigames. Next is an overview of these minigames.
Bridge Building
Probably the harder out of the two. You have to push a box around while completing levels, adding another thing to worry about, other then dying. There are three mandatory boxes you must complete, and three optional ones unlocked after completing the mandatory ones. You must play as a fixed character for each level. These characters are detailed below.
The Student
Most levels are played as the Student, and you must play as her for all the mandatory boxes. This makes Bridge Building even harder, as many players don't have the Student, so they must get used to her abilities. You can't just not use her ability, as she is as slow as the Lizard and has a terrible jump. She is also used for half of one of the optional boxes.
The Runner
She is easier to use, as you used her many times by now, and you actually know what she's going to do. She is used for two of the optional boxes. However, most of her levels are fairly hard. The optional boxes are for challenging yourself, and you will receive some more cutscenes and dialogue.
The Skater
The Skater is only used in two levels, which is the other half of the optional box shared by the Student, but he definitely deserves his share too. His levels are interesting and fun with the fact that they both take place in the M-Tunnel, which is full of crumbling tiles.
The Angel Missions
The Angel Missions isn't that much different than normal levels, except for one twist: You must play as the Angel for the entirety of the missions. This isn't as annoying as the Bridge Building, where not only you have to get used to the Student's abilities, you have the box as well. Here, get used to the Angel, and you shouldn't have a problem.
I like these mini-games because you get to play as characters you likely don't have, which is always enjoyable. I detail the mini-games more ( with walkthroughs! ) on the respective posts.
Power Cell Farming
Now is the time you start focusing on Infinity Mode and farming Power Cells. I personally think it is very time-consuming unless you are skilled with the right character ( the Gentlemen ). In the Late Game, the characters you are working to get will prove exceedingly useful. Get the necessary 2000 Power Cells needed to get the Gentlemen, master him, and start getting the rewards you get from Infinity Mode: Power Cells. Using the Gentlemen, it is recommended that you farm in Infinity Mode as individual power cells spawn more often and are worth more. If one is skilled with the Gentlemen, gathering about 70-75 power cells a minute is a good mark, and if you can do that, getting the 12000 power cells shouldn't prove to difficult. After 12000, buy both the Duplicator and the Pastafarian. I recommend getting the Pastafarian first, since you can then use her to get achievements and "Saved by His Noodly Light" while farming, then, when you die, you can switch to the Gentlemen. Because of this, it is also recommended to get the following shop items:
- Respawn costs are reduced by 10 ( 1500 power cells )
- More Boxes appear in Infinite Mode ( 200 power cells, cost doubles every time you buy it )
- Boxes in Infinite Mode also contain Power Cells ( 2000 Power Cells )
It is also a good idea to get the Pirate Costume, though it doesn't appear until you have the Pastafarian. And for the more boxes appear in Infinite Mode upgrade, once or twice is fine.
The Pastafarian and the Duplicator are the useful characters you need, and, during the mid-game you can start farming the 22000 power cells required to get the Student and the Angel, who aren't really needed, but are fun to use.
